Aflatoun is an international non-profit organization based in The Netherlands. It works in close partnership with over 150 organizations in 97 countries to deliver a student-centered child social and financial education (CSFE) programme. Aflatoun believes that when children are self-confident, socially responsible and financially competent, they have the power to make a difference in their own lives and improve the world they live in.

The success of the programme is embedded on both what Aflatoun teaches and how it teaches. Aflatoun advocates the importance of delivering CSFE using student-centered, participatory methodologies: these help children develop critical thinking and creativity. Thus, an integral part of success is the teachers. They act as facilitators in the learning process and empower children to take control of their own learning. Aflatoun wishes to encourage the exchanges between the teachers who participate in the project.

Orange Foundation is supporting Aflatoun to develop a teachers' platform, which will allow teachers to share ideas, innovations, challenges and experiences, and to form – in a virtual sense – the sort of clusters that are central to the ideas of reflective practice. The platform will increase teachers' access to resources, including access to new ideas and thought processes. Following a pilot phase in Niger, the use of this platform is due to be extended to other countries where Aflatoun operates.

Festival Les Orientales

For five days in early summer, the Les Orientales Festival takes over the small town of Saint-Florent-le-Vieil (Department 49). Providing opportunities for artistic discoveries and cultural exchanges, this unique event has been reinventing itself for the past 15 years. Poets, musicians, storytellers, dancers and acrobats come here to celebrate an Orient of voyages, festivities and meditation on the banks of the River Loire. The one hundred or more artists present, whose creativity is inspired by the last remnants of an endangered world heritage, blend in with the special atmosphere of the site.

From Mediterranean North Africa to the far ends of distant Asia, Les Orientales presents the traditions of these peoples of village, mountain, sea and desert, who are the guardians of ancient simplicity and refinement.

Jazz sous les pommiers

The Jazz sous les pommiers (Jazz under the apple trees) festival has become an absolute must for jazz lovers. Combining stars and emerging artists, every year the programme is innovative and has never disappointed the festival goers who have been faithful for 32 years.

Coutances is transformed by the festival. For a week, discover artists from the whole world who come to share their music and perform all over town under the artistic direction of Denis Le Bas.

Festival du Bout du Monde

The Festival du Bout du Monde (land's end festival) is the meeting place for music from around the world and the mixing of cultures. It has been taking place for almost 14 years on the second weekend in August on the Crozon Peninsula in the Department of Finisterre. Every year, the festival plays host to 60,000 people on Landaoudec meadows and is now one of the major international music events in France. The programme combines established and less well known artists and altogether a total of 35 musical acts from all over the world appear one after the other on the festival's 3 stages.

Opéra national de Paris

The primary mission of the National Opera in Paris is to present its repertoire of operas and choreographic works to the widest possible public. That is why, since 2009, the Opera has been investing in the recording and live broadcasting of its productions for television, the internet and cinema. This audiovisual policy, made possible by support from the Orange Foundation, enables the institution to reach out to a wider public both in France and abroad.

Eight productions from the 2012-2013 season, operas and ballets, are to be broadcast live from the Palais Garnier and the Opera Bastille to nearly 400 cinemas in France, Europe and the world. In order to play to the full its role of making operas and dance performances more accessible, the Opera wants to join up with at least one cinema per department in France, to reach out to more remote audiences for whom culture is not easily accessible.

These broadcasts made by the National Opera in Paris benefit from the support of the Orange Foundation.

the "Village” project

A village is "a water point, a healthcare centre, a school."
By 2015, the programme aims to provide a school, a healthcare centre and a water point for the poorest villages in all of the developing countries where the Orange Group operates.
The Orange Foundation is setting up the "Village" project in 10 countries.

With this infrastructure creation project, the Orange Foundation can act on all three of the essential levers of development for communities in certain countries.
The Orange foundations around the world have always supported scattered schools and healthcare centres. With the “Village” project, they have simply adopted an integrated approach.

The programme was initiated by the Orange-Côte d'Ivoire Telecom Foundation, and the first five villages were inaugurated on 21 and 22 March 2013.
The country foundations coordinate village construction. Employees of the subsidiaries are involved in the project through a variety of volunteer activities, including proposing a village, contributing to construction work, or donating books.

These projects are developed in coordination with the countries' different ministries and/or international organisations and NGOs.

The programme is moving forward with the construction of villages in Côte d'Ivoire, Madagascar, Tunisia, Niger, Cameroon, Senegal, Uganda and Armenia.
Each village is designed for the local context.

They are a part of the Foundation's commitment to education and healthcare.

world autism awareness day

World Autism Awareness Day is on 2 April 2013. It is intended to inform the general public about the realities of this developmental disorder. Autism is a very real problem: one in every 150 children is born with it and there are over 600,000 people with autism spectrum disorders in France. Autism was chosen as the national cause for 2012.
Since 1991, the Orange Foundation has been supporting families and professionals to break down the wall of autism.

For 22 years, the Orange Foundation has been backing associations and groups that support people with autism and volunteers. It leads a broad range of efforts and is meeting today's needs by supporting medical research, funding equipment for autism centres to improve the daily lives of children and adults, providing access to specialised training for families and caretakers, and offering an opportunity to travel and enjoy sport and leisure activities.

Over 2,000 projects have already been funded and each year the Foundation selects a flagship theme. After focusing on research in 2012, the theme in 2013 will be families and siblings.

The Orange Foundation works every day to improve the lives of people with autism and their families. It launched four calls for projects in the first quarter of 2013, including one on digital tools for autism that have proven to be very effective. A jury of experts selects the winning projects.

The Foundation has supported work on autism for more than two decades. In Europe, it works hand in hand with charities to create and develop care, training and research centres and to organise vacations.

It brought parents, support staff and researchers together in 2012 for a conference on the latest progress in research. The Orange Spain Foundation organised the first international conference on new technologies applied to autism. In 2012, the Foundation funded 94 projects which aimed to improve the lives of people with autism by providing centres with better equipment, training families and offering people with autism the chance to enjoy hobbies.

It also develops programmes to support people with other types of disabilities. In Armenia, the Foundation supports the Armenian Eye Care Project's Mobile Eye Hospital. A truck drives through villages offering diagnostic services and treatment for local residents' vision problems.

The Foundation's actions in Africa focus on women.
In Madagascar, it supports the Akbaraly Foundation's mobile clinic project for rural villages. In addition to offering mother and child healthcare services, the project provides testing and diagnostic services for gynaecological and breast cancers.
In Fianarantsoa, a high speed telemedicine system is now used for diagnoses. Also in Madagascar, the Foundation supports EAST, a charity which won the Women's Forum “Women for Education” Prize for its work in supporting women and education and improving access to healthcare. It is also committed to working with AMREF on the first telemedicine pilot programme in West Africa: 4 isolated hospitals now enjoy long-distance medical assistance.
