A new MOOC on modern and contemporary art, for you!

Huge numbers of you signed up to the first MOOC at the Pompidou Centre school (in french). Alongside the Pompidou Centre and its partners, we are delighted to offer four new sequences focusing on modern and contemporary art.

This season, the MOOC will delve into the question of time: how do modern and contemporary artists approach this universal yet profound topic throughout the 20th and 21st centuries? How is time sculpted, filmed, exposed? How has it become a plastic material for artists, just like oils for painters?

Thanks to experts at the national museum of modern art, you will see that modern and contemporary art has explored a wide variety of different rhythms: the speed of modernity, the mechanical repetition of the industrial world, but also extended time, or the natural pace of walking.

This idea of time is at the heart of the programme, with the following sequences:

  • Lasting, where you will see how artists have given meaning to duration.
  • Repeating, where you will observe there is nothing monotonous about repetition.
  • Timing, because rhythm is fully part of our lives.
  • And finally the verb Walking – supported by the University of Quebec in Montreal and the Figura Centre - because walking offers a simple yet particular appreciation of time.

Anybody can take this MOOC for free. It can be accessed through your web browser on a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone.

Discover the MOOC from 8 October 2018, registration is already open!.
Don’t worry, you don’t need to have taken the first season to enjoy this new class. And you can still access the first season as an unsupervised student.
To offer access to culture for everyone, we support new forms of learning which open a window onto a wealth of culture and heritage.
