Aspie Days: the first international consortium on Asperger Syndrome (AS) in France

On 17 and 18 February 2017, ASS des AS organized the "first international consortium on Asperger Syndrome (AS) / High-Functioning Autism (HFA)". It took place at the Grand Palais in Lille.

Aspie Days : 1er salon international en France sur le syndrome d'Asperger

This event was organised with our support by ASS des AS, a parent support group in partnership with the Autism Resources Centre for Nord-Pas-De-Calais, CREAI Nord-Pas-de-Calais, I.S.R.A.A, and Réseau Bulle.

A repository of untapped talent

The few available figures on autism and pervasive developmental disorders show that less than 3% of autistic adults are in full-time employment in regular jobs (source: Autism Europe).
Support for employment opportunities is very important: young people with autism or AS need more workplace experience, and employers do not have the knowledge and experience to assess and support them.
However, these young people represent a repository of untapped talent for companies. They want nothing more than to have the opportunity to show what they are capable of, so that they can receive the support they need.

Aspie Days: highlighting and encouraging best practice

  • Bringing together in a same place - Lille Grand Palais - anyone connected to High Functioning Autism (HFA) from Nord-pas de Calais-Picardie, France, Europe, and further afield: people with Asperger Syndrome / High Functioning Autism, researchers, clinicians, parents, not-for-profits, organisations developing specific solutions, companies which employ or want to employ people with autism.
  • Highlighting and promoting recognised, innovative or emerging best practice for HFA, to enable inclusion at school, work and at all levels of society for people with autism.
  • Giving visitors an insight, and useful contacts, for developing life prospects for a person with AS or HFA.

The programme

Throughout these two days, conferences and round table discussions brought together recognised experts and organisations working in autism, people with AS, people with HFA, and parents.

At the same time, six “exhibition villages” showed the different life stages of a person: school, higher education, health, work, housing, leisure and everyday activities, support for carers, Asperger peer support.

The conferences and round table discussions were recorded in video

You can find all the conferences and questions / answers sessions in videos.
