The country’s first Digital Centre has opened its doors in Yaoundé. It is the first step in our international programme which aims to use digital technology to help women gain their independence.
The inauguration of the Orange Cameroon Foundation’s first Digital Centre at the Yaoundé 5 women’s centre on Tuesday 27 October was a proud and emotional moment. Brigitte Audy, Secretary General of the Orange Foundation, inaugurated the centre at a ceremony attended by around a hundred women and a representative from the Ministry for the promotion of women and the family.

This Digital Centre is located in the Centre for the Promotion of Women and the Family, which is very active in supporting underprivileged women and whose director has a long and impressive history of service. The Digital Centre will be equipped with entrepreneurship training kits, and will immediately start hosting up to 100 women for training on and with digital technology. The objective is to help them develop income-generating activity in order to become independent, including financially.

During the inauguration, Brigitte Audy said, "It is a delight to share in these women’s energy, their convictions and their desire to gain independence and help sustainably develop their country!" The inauguration ceremony marked the launch of our "Digital Centres" programme. Starting this fall, it will be rolled out in 4 other parts of Cameroon and in 3 other countries: Tunisia, Madagascar and Côte d’Ivoire. A total of 20 centres will be equipped by early 2016.
