Digital schools in Madagascar: 15,000 more beneficiaries at the start of the 2016 school year!

Digital schools, which were launched in Madagascar in 2014, continue to expand across the island. At the start of the new school year, the programme will serve 15,213 students in the final two years of secondary school.

At the end of June 2016, we signed an amendment to the Digital Schools agreement with the country’s Ministry for Education. The signing, attended by Minister for Education Paul Rabary, ushered in support for 30 more schools for the 2016-2017 school year. A total of over 15,000 students will enjoy access to education through the digital kit.

Digital schools, which now exist in 12 countries, form a part of our priority commitment to digital education, alongside the Digital Centres and Solidarity FabLabs. These three programmes provide support to the neediest, particularly to young people and women in challenging circumstances. With these initiatives, we are supporting equal opportunities through digital technology.

This year, Madagascar’s Ministry for Postal Services, Telecommunications and Digital Development contributed to the programme by providing over a thousand tablets to the new digital schools.
With the humanitarian endeavours of Orange Solidarity Madagascar and our support for education, Orange Madagascar is reaffirming its position as a responsible and generous corporate citizen. The Madagascan government recognised these initiatives and thanked us with a certificate of recognition presented during the signing ceremony.
