Grenoble: young people learn to produce and work together again!

For a number of years, we have been working with the Académie de Grenoble and the Casemate Solidarity FabLab that we support, to fight against school dropout rates. This year, it has been high school students supported by the Mission de Lutte contre la décrochage scolaire (the mission for the fight against school dropouts) who discovered the universe and the possibilities offered by our Solidarity FabLab.

50 young people learning "differently"

This year, another 50 high school students have worked with their teachers to define a project to develop at the Casemate Solidarity FabLab. A story of a chocolate sweet: "la papillote", a giant scrabble board, and a model of the agglomeration of Grenoble are some of the projects that were turned into real objects through digital manufacturing: laser cutting machines, vinyl, drawing applications, 3D printing... "It’s a wonderful collective effort", says Fatia Hodot, a teacher, "a new way of working", adds Corinne Sallée, also a teacher, "they have learned about computer technology differently, hands on, and designed things. They have learned a lot throughout the project, including how to listen".

From dropouts to avid learners!

These children are enrolled at 6 high schools in the Grenoble school district, most of them located in Priority Education Areas (ZEPs): Algoud-Laffemas in Valence, Vaucanson in Grenoble, Jean Jaurès in Grenoble, Odyssée in Pont de Chéruy, La Saulaie in Saint Marcellin and Cluses. There are also recently arrived young migrants in this group. As Françoise Dangoumeau, an inspector at the Académie puts it "some of them are not dropouts but avid learners!"

Review day for the 4th school year

The day of presentations for the Solidarity FabLab, which took place in the Orange Meylan premises, was particularly busy and appreciated by both the pupils and teachers, including objects on exhibition, meetings with employees who presented their jobs, a robot workshop for the schoolchildren, etc.

The Académie de Grenoble, Casemate, the Orange Foundation, the Orange Alpes delegation and several associations visited the exhibition.
A number of workshops were offered to the young people to discover the jobs that exist at Orange.
