In Amiens, the Machinerie Solidarity FabLab welcomes young people who have dropped out of the school system

The team at the Machinerie will attend VivaTech on 26 May to present one of their projects (a bird feeder) and show the public the digital tools they use at the FabLab. Focus on the projects.

The Machinerie, a Solidarity FabLab in the city of Amiens has welcomed some 70 young people out of school since it opened.
Many of them have abandoned their schooling following difficult experiences there, so the FabLab provides them with a second chance to gain confidence in themselves.

Innovative programs

Two programs suited to the needs of young people in difficulty have been set up with the aim of providing access to digital education to everyone.

  • The free sessions welcome the young people several times a week to help them complete their projects. They begin by getting to know the digital tools - 3D printer, modelling, lasers, etc.
  • The digital artisan training runs for six months and alternates between digital manufacturing skills and entrepreneurship. For 12 weeks, the students learn how to use the FabLab machines and undergo training in entrepreneurship. They then undergo 12 weeks of immersion with a FabLab partner where they work on a project dealing with a specific issue.
