Montpellier: digital video helps young people to approach companies

Video workshops with and for young people to improve the
ir employability.

Video workshops with the young people from the Mission Locale de Montpellier (*) are one of the projects we decided to support with the Missions Locales in all French regions. These video workshops help young unemployed people with few or no qualifications to improve their employability. How? By getting them to produce a digital video to present their career plan or regional businesses. It’s a way to demonstrate their technical skills, their future plans... and their interest in regional businesses.

Lights, camera, action in Montpellier!

In total, 10 reports were created by groups of young people from the southern Mission Locale. Lights, camera, action in Montpellier - at Orange! Supported by a duo of young volunteers performing Civic Service and by Kaïna TV, young people from the Mission Locale worked to create a report at Orange about the Croix d’Argent site in Montpellier. Local teams told them about technical jobs performed by women: the young people could interview the women about their daily lives and job at Orange, including Stéphanie Veron (Gard - Lozère zone security support), Lia Nozeran (client maintenance technician at Marché Gare) and Nelly Cau (filterer-optimiser at Croix d’Argent).

“It was the first time that I had visited a large company”

“Employees showed us their workplaces and explained their jobs. It was the first time that I had visited a large company like Orange,” Germain, a young person from the Mission Locale, tells us. The information and discussions were then edited by the young people to produce the video. “It was also the first time that I had filmed a video report,” explains Germain; “I filmed the takes and I could put what we had learnt in the workshop into practice, although moving with the camera was more difficult.”
“The young participants really got stuck in; they coped really well considering they had never done this before in their life, and it seemed like they really enjoyed filming,” concluded Noé, a Civic Service volunteer and host at MLKA TV.
