Musical philanthropy: committee results

Following our recent call for projects in the musical field, we received 100 requests for support.

During a committee meeting on 5 November 2015, our 6 musical experts finally selected 26 projects, based on criteria including artistic interest, artist professionalism, repertoire (classical, jazz and world music), the number of concerts and geographic distribution.

The integration of young artists is one of our priorities. Amongst the 13 new approved projects, two wonderful discoveries are going to be supported: Le Banquet céleste, a young baroque music group led by the counter-tenor Damien Guillon, located in Brittany; and Les Monts du Reuil, a group specialising in the recreation of 17th and 18th century comic operas. Based in the Champagne-Ardenne region, it is in residence at the Opéra of Reims.
We also support music popularisation projects, particularly focusing on classical music, in order to make culture available to audiences who struggle to access it for social, geographic or health reasons. With this in mind, we are supporting the El Camino-Pau project, proposed by the Pau-Pays de Béarn Orchestra. Through this scheme, 145 children from a priority neighbourhood will be able to learn to play instruments with lessons provided by 17 professional musicians, with a debut performance to be held in only four months.

The digital platform Sharing Creativity!, set up by the NoMadMusic label, was also chosen by the committee of experts. This platform will allow the general public to have a go at composing musical pieces for free, using music samples recorded by prestigious artistic partners (Rouen Normandy Opera Orchestra, Ile-de-France National Orchestra, etc.). A composition contest, which is open to all, will be launched on Tuesday 17 November, with the winner being able to hear their piece played at the Philharmonie de Paris concert hall at the start of the French Touch concert on 17 January 2016.
