Orange International Digital Solidarity 2012

The Orange Foundation this year launched for the first time an international appeal for Orange Digital Solidarity projects, open to all the associations and NGOs working in the countries where the Group operates.

Orange International Digital Solidarity; what is it?

The promotion of social solidarity around the world with the emphasis on digital technology. To this end, the Orange Foundation supports the projects of associations working in the fields of education, healthcare, social and professional integration, community development in developing countries and even culture.

The uniqueness of the programme lies in the fact that the projects proposed concern:

  • digital equipment,
  • the creation or adaptation of digital content,
  • support and training for people to use digital technologies,
  • the setting up of social network style platforms.

This first 2012 edition has been a success and the committee found it hard to select 16 projects (helped by sound advice from the foundations and subsidiaries in each country). Some choices were unanimous favourites while others were the result of passionate discussions and debates.

The outcome of this first international appeal for projects can be defined using a single word: diversity.

Diversity of the projects and the areas targeted, as the Foundation supports innovative, but also unusual projects.

Digital equipment for a circus school in Madagascar so that the children could enjoy a full curriculum mixing new technologies and their chosen pastime, the prevention of AIDS by young people trained in NICTs in the Mali / Senegal / Guinea region, an audio library for children and young people in Armenia affected by blindness or with impaired vision, or even promoting the culture and history of Cameroon on Wikipedia

To sum up, ODS – International 2012 is:

  • 56 projects received,
  • 13 projects given financial backing,
  • 3 projects supported by donations of equipment (PCs, digital tablets…),
  • 25 countries represented,
  • 1 multi-national team around the globe…

And, we hope, thousands of smiles!
