Orange and its Foundation support the Phonethon, the annual fundraising campaign for Armenia

phonethon_2013The French branch of the Armenia Fund charity, Fonds Arménien de France, will run this year’s Phonethon campaign, which Orange has partnered since 2000, from 21 to 24 November.
Funds collected by telephone will finance various projects supporting Armenians, particularly in rural areas, for instance:

  • a new stage of the Tavush agro-pastoral project in Armenia,
  • construction and completion of rural centres in Karabagh,
  • the ongoing aid programme to Armenian victims of the war in Syria.

The Fonds Arménien de France volunteers receive technical support from Orange: telecom and IT resources are made available to them at a number of Group call centres (Cachan, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse).

With these facilities, last year, a team of over 600 volunteers were able to reach some 55,000 families and collect donations of €1,400,000.

For this year’s event, sponsored by actress Ariane Ascaride and her husband, director Robert Guédiguian, the Phonethon hopes to involve just as many volunteers and collect at least as many donations.

The Orange Foundation often does work in Armenia, in collaboration with the local Orange Foundation. In 2013 and 2014, the Foundation is supporting a number of health projects. With the Armenian Eye Care Project, the Orange Foundation has linked up with the “Bringing Sight to Armenian Eyes” project, to provide rural Armenian populations with eye tests, eye surgeries and glasses. The Orange Foundation has helped create the first audio library for the visually impaired, in partnership with the Global Youth Union Foundation. It has also been working in Armenia for many years on behalf of people with autism.
