The Solidarity FabLabs Challenge

Pavé Solaire

FabLab Ker Thiossane - Dakar

In Senegal, the electricity supply is still problematic. Due to the cost, many areas are simply without power. While solar alternatives are being developed, they are expensive. The least costly systems are unsuitable for the aggressive urban environment. The FabLab project (Ker Thiossane) is working on an innovative solar street lighting system which is inexpensive and based on local expertise and materials. The aim is to create prototypes suited to the local context that comply with sustainable development requirements.

The prototypes will be designed in a workshop at the end of April. They will be installed to light up the streets at night. Based on an open source design, the prototypes are available to everyone from young budding electricians to engineers.
