Romania: 1st Digital Centre for women in need

In Romania - like elsewhere - digital technology has become vital for education and finding a job. We have just opened our 1st Women’s Digital Centre in Romania, in Bucharest. It offers a new chance for women in need to get a job and become financially independent.

400 women trained

The objective of the Bucharest Digital Centre is to train 400 young women and girls from vulnerable minorities in digital technology to help them to integrate socially and economically.
They are between 14 and 18 years old, with very difficult circumstances: school drop-outs and victims of violence with no real access to educational resources.
At the Digital Centre, they receive 10 months of full training through fun and educational games.

Brigitte Audy, Secretary General of the Orange Foundation, Mary-Lisa Durban, Europe and Middle East Sponsorship Director, and Amalia Fodor, Director of the Orange Foundation in Romania, with the beneficiaries.

Innovative training to find a way back into employment

At the Digital Centre, training starts with an introduction to the internet: learning how to use an email account, create a Word and Excel document, use mobile apps like Whatsapp, etc. Coaching workshops are then organised to prepare them for their future employment.

Training... but also reaching out to marginalised communities

The programme encourages group activities that will help these women to resocialise and prepare to deal with different working situations together.
The participants are also monitored psychologically to help them deal with their problems and restore their confidence.
