Summer festivals 2016

This year we are again supporting more than 20 festivals of classical, jazz and World music, across the whole of France. From the Chorégies d’Orange to the Escales de Saint-Nazaire, a non-exhaustive overview of a selection of 10 of this summer’s festivals.

  • 1. Noirlac Abbey festival

    From 25 June to 16 July, Noirlac Abbey (south of Bourges) welcomes artists and audiences for musical events featuring jazz, classical and traditional concerts. Three concerts will be held each Saturday with concert-goers able to dine in the Abbey gardens.

  • 2. 1001 notes in Limousin

    For a month between 7 July and 8 August, classical music sets the rhythm in Limoges and a dozen surrounding towns and villages. This year the festival is paying tribute to the 7th Art - film - with 27 concerts. There are cine-concerts on the programme, as well as performances of original film scores.

  • 3. The Beaune International Festival of Baroque Opera

    In 2016 the international festival of baroque opera is offering a series of 9 operas and oratorios, as well as 3 recitals in the courtyard of the historic Hospices and Beaune basilica. From 8 to 31 July you can hear works led by famous conductors (Christie, Rousset) as well as young talents.

  • 4. Musicales de Normandie

    Spread between a dozen municipalities, the Musicales de Normandie this year comprise 25 concerts from 8 July to 28 August, from Rouen à Varengeville-sur-mer. The programme features vocal music and pieces from the French romantic repertoire.

  • 5. Chorégies d’Orange

    For the 2016 edition the Chorégies d’Orange have two great classical operas on the programme: Madame Butterfly (Puccini) and La Traviata (Verdi). There are numerous other symphonic and operatic concerts also scheduled. Share the experience from 9 July to 6 August in the magnificent Roman theatre in Orange, which can accommodate an audience of nearly 3000 music-lovers.

  • 6. Sylvanes Abbey Festival

    In August 2016 the Sylvanes Abbey Festival gives pride of place to great works of religious music (baroque, classical, romantic and operatic) Spread between several locations in the Aveyron region, these concerts are an opportunity to discover some wonderful sites and towns.

  • 7. Escales de Saint-Nazaire

    For the 25th edition of the festival, the Escales de Saint-Nazaire are being reinvented. The festival is to run for 3 days, from 29 to 31 July. The programme includes well-known artists like Faada Freddy, who was at the Solidarity FabLabs I make 4 my city challenge evening.

  • 8. Abbeys of Lorraine Festival

    From 25 June to 23 August, this 2016 edition of the Abbeys of Lorraine Festival marks the beginning of a three-year cycle celebrating nature and gardens. Two elements that are keys aspects of the cultural and economic heritage of the three festival partner abbeys.

  • 9. Froville Festival

    The Froville Festival of religious and baroque music has been running since 20 May. Until 10 July you can both attend concerts by renowned artists (Philippe Jarousky) and take part in educational and music awareness workshops.

  • 10. Vézère Festival

    This year the festival is part of an exercise in social integration through song. From 12 July to 25 August, in Brive and its surrounding area, workshops for young people from disadvantaged districts will be scheduled alongside the concerts. The inaugural concert will be a performance by young people from Brive’s socio-cultural centres.
