"There for people in need"

For international volunteering week, Elisabeth Medou-Badang, CEO of Orange Cameroon, tells us how Orange employees in the country are involved in solidarity.

« During International Volunteering Week, we encourage employees to get involved by giving them the opportunity to take part in volunteer initiatives that they choose themselves, to help vulnerable people in our community.

Orange Cameroon has over 200 active volunteers involved in their communities.

During last year’s International Volunteering Week, they volunteered in orphanages, schools and centres for people with disabilities in towns across the country, to improve lives and bring hope to dozens of the poorest Cameroonians. Similar actions are planned for this year, focused on a key activity that will highlight Orange Cameroon employees’ commitment to serving their communities.

This key activity is building toilets, dormitories and classrooms and installing a gate for the school for the deaf located in Eseka, 200 km from our headquarters. Employees from the Yaounde, Bafoussam and Bamenda branches will also volunteer to help 3 local orphanages. They will donate items including food, other essential products, sheets and towels and will scrub floors, clean the dormitories, touch up the paint, and do other maintenance and household work.

In short, we will put solidarity into action by being there for people in need. Orange Cameroon is a company committed to being a good citizen. Through its foundation, the company boosts employee volunteers’ efforts by providing the support they need to help the underprivileged, during International Volunteering Week and year-round. »
