They were right to take a chance on this charcoal seller!

"The Orange Foundation showed faith in me by accepting me into the Women’s Digital Centre. I want to show them they were right to take a chance on this charcoal seller". Yvette Ezozi, a charcoal seller in Cameroon is about to open her African restaurant. She tells us her story.

Yvette is 43, and supports her family by selling firewood and charcoal. She explains how she got this far: em>"I fell pregnant at 14 and abandoned my education to become a small trader and bring up my daughter on my own."

A few months ago she had to leave her job as a drinks manager to look after her grandson, so her daughter could continue with her higher education. "To keep things going, I began to sell wood and charcoal from outside my house ."
For several months now Yvette has been attending twice weekly training at the Bertoua Digital Centre, and it’s been a real revelation for this woman who has always wanted to be an entrepreneur.

Highly motivated, she is one of the remaining 20 women from the 90 who started the course. During her training at the Digital Centre, she has learned to manage a business, and decided to present a plan for a restaurant. "One day, the trainer told us we each had to put together a plan for a project we wanted to pursue, and that the best would be taken forward," she explains, "I presented a plan to open a restaurant where dishes would be cooked using wood or charcoal fires, according to the customers’ wishes. A few days later I learned that my project was the one chosen, I was thrilled. "

As well as her training at our Digital Centre, we are helping Yvette to realise her project with our Amazing Women Award, a grant of 3 million CFA francs (4570 Euros).

Yvette won’t stop there, and dreams of opening a chain of restaurants across all of Cameroon.
