For several months now a severe humanitarian emergency has been afflicting populations in the north of Cameroon. Orange Foundation Cameroon has contributed to funding three water sources in three separate villages, to provide access to clean water.

Victims of advancing desertification, the people of the extreme north of Cameroon are suffering because of the region’s depleted water tables. At the same time the activity of terrorist group Boko Haram is driving hundreds of families to flee into the north of the country.
As the months pass the situation is getting worse. Every day inhabitants travel several kilometres in search of clean water. In this emergency situation the Orange Foundation in Cameroon has decided to help these people.

It was as early as last summer, June 2015, that an agreement was signed with the regional authorities for the construction of three water access points. Begun a year ago in the districts of Mozogo, Fotokol and Waza, work was completed at the end of May 2016. This infrastructure, similar to installations built in Orange Villages, will benefit more than 200 displaced families.
In Cameroon we are providing answers to vital needs. We are also continuing to work for the education of young people and women. In addition to the 5 Digital Centres that are already operational, several training establishments (IT, cookery, tailoring/dressmaking, hairdressing, etc.) are opening their doors in the East of the country to help young women find work. Young women continue to be severely disadvantaged in their education in contrast to boys.
