Every gesture counts. Orange Foundation Romania supports the community and joins the common efforts of fighting the new coronavirus by deploying actions in 3 main directions: endowment of COVID-19 hospitals, social intervention for vulnerable people and continuity of the educational process.
"We are all exposed and equal in front of the disease and one thing is certain: together we can help more. Our rescue lies in solidarity and respect. #We stay at home, but we don’t stay away", said Dana Deac, President of the Orange Foundation Romania.
Supporting the public healthcare system in Romania
Orange Foundation donates 400,000 euro to the Romanian Red Cross, sponsorship that will be used for purchasing mechanical ventilation devices, essential in treating patients with severe forms of COVID-19.
"We are deeply thankful to Orange Foundation Romania for their involvement in a time when social responsibility is so important for saving lives. The efforts of the Romanian medical staff are huge, so it is essential to join efforts and express our empathy and solidarity. Only together, we can overcome these difficult moments.", said Ioan Silviu Lefter, General Manager of the Romanian Red Cross, a worldwide organization with 144 years of experience in humanitarian assistance, in the most difficult periods.
Supporting the most vulnerable ones
With the support of Orange Foundation Group, Orange Foundation Romania donates 32.000 euro to the Princess Margareta of Romania Foundation, helping the elderly living in poverty/isolation during COVID-19 emergency.
In total, about 400 seniors from 7 rural and urban communities will receive food, hygiene products and homecare services near Easter. The isolation imposed by the pandemic means loneliness and lack of access to services for the elderly. A vulnerable category in front of this new virus due to their health condition, the seniors have also the lowest mobility because, in case of need, they can travel only two hours a day, according to the rules imposed by the Romanian authorities.
Last but not least, the elderly have the lowest rate of internet access and experience in using technology in general, which makes it difficult for them to shop online. From basic necessities to emotional support, the elderly need the help of those around to get through this unexpected crisis.
"We have created the "Fund for the Elderly "as an emergency fund to respond with an open heart to the most pressing needs the seniors face during the pandemic. We are glad that Orange Foundation has chosen to support our efforts of providing new social and support services in the community, helping people facing difficulties today.", said Mugurel Mărgărit, Executive Director of the Royal Margaret Foundation of Romania, NGO established in 1990 and developing a wide variety of sustainable projects in the areas of education, community development, civil society, health and culture.
Supporting Romanian education in challenging times
Launched in 2016, Digitaliada is an innovative program and the very first of this type in Romania, using interactive working methods and digital educational content in order to increase students’ school performance.
Through the Digitaliada platform, the Orange Foundation Romania has been supporting the continuity of the educational process and communication between teachers, students and parents, since the school suspension on March 10th, as a proactive measure for limiting the further spread of the coronavirus disease.
With 10,000 new accounts in less than 2 weeks, the "Online Learning and Testing" section from Digitaliada, a free Learning Management System solution launched in November 2019, has proven to be an extremely useful tool, along with the over 2000 educational resources, available for free on Digitaliada.ro.
Also, throughout the state of emergency imposed by the Romanian authorities, Orange customers will benefit from free traffic for all the resources listed on the Digitaliada.ro platform.
